I have been intrigued by Amazon’s Alexa for quite some time.
To that end, I found these Alexa-enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plugs today on Amazon.
The following information is for the pack of 4 plugs (which is where you get the best deal) but it comes in a pack of 2 or a single plug package as well.
What is an Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug?
Many of Amazon’s signature devices come with a digital assistant named Alexa.
You can ask her to do things for you – like play music, order pizza, and even turn on your lights or your appliances.
In order for “her” to be able to control your lights and appliances, they must be plugged in to something called a smart plug.
This way Alexa can communicate with the plug over your wi-fi connection.
When you use your voice to tell Alexa to turn on your lights – she sends a signal over wi-fi to the smart plug and just like that your lights turn on.
With the Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug you can even create a schedule for whatever you have plugged into it.
Continuing the lights example – you can create a schedule for your lights to turn on right before you arrive home from work and turn off right before bedtime.
It’s super handy when you go on vacation, too – like a light timer on steroids.
Why This Ora Smart Plug in Particular?
There are many different smart plugs on the market these days.
But I was impressed with the Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug for two main reasons.
1. It Only Occupies One Socket
In our house, electric sockets are at a premium.
It seems that we plug in an awful lot of stuff.
So, the last thing that I would want is a smart plug that covers both outlets.
The Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug only occupies one socket, which leaves the other one free for you to use for something else.
2. It Has Good Ratings
I rely heavily on customer reviews, especially when I am buying something that I don’t have much experience with.
The ratings on Amazon for the Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug are a 5 star average at the time of this writing – so it seems that people like it.
Don’t Forget Alexa
Of course, in order to use the Alexa-Enabled Ora Wi-Fi Mini Smart Plug with Alexa you will need an Alexa device. (I believe that it also works with a free smartphone app, so you don’t necessarily need Alexa but it is probably more fun to have her around. 😉 )
You can find Alexa on the following devices:
- the all-new Amazon Echo
- the very cool looking Echo Spot, which you can pre-order now
- the Echo Show
- the Echo Dot (Find out what the Amazon Echo Dot can do here)
- the Amazon Tap
- the all-new Fire HD10
- and even the all-new Fire TV
I think I know what I want for the holidays this year!
