Almost Practical – why did you choose that name for your blog and business?
Whenever, I introduce myself, I usually get that question.
And yes, there is a story behind it.

When I started this blog back in 2013, I didn’t really have a direction for it, or my business. That’s a whole another story that you can read here.
Well, I was thinking lifestyle blog – and I was also toying with the idea of starting a professional organizing business. Which is ironic because I can easily help other people bring order and clarity to their lives – it’s my superpower.
But I get muddled with my own direction.
The shoemaker’s kids have no shoes – it’s a classic case.
I Have Always Been Practical … Almost
With all the blogs that I have had over the years – I have always incorporated some synonym of “practical”:
- tips and ideas
Certainly, nothing flamboyant or whimsical.
Yet, when I think of practical – it’s boring.
In fact a blog that is completely practical would not be compelling enough to motivate me to write.

But “almost practical” seemed perfect.
It gives the impression of reliable ideas but leaves the door open for creativity and doing things that don’t always make the most sense.
How Do You Make Decisions?
Think about all the decisions that you make in life.
You gather all the pros and the cons.
You narrow down your choices.
And then you have to pick one.
Generally the last two choices left standing are both pretty good.
So you go with your gut.
Red or blue? East or west?
You rely on that inner voice, that feeling of which one will be the best choice for you.
When it comes to organizing, routines, and productivity – setting up and following all the processes may seem cut and dry.
But even in Marie Kondo’s blockbuster book – The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – the question that she begs you to ask as you declutter is “Does it spark joy?”.
That’s not practical.
That is Almost Practical.
