Did you know that you can learn how to start blogging and be up and running in less than 20 minutes? It’s easier than you think.
If you are one of those people who has been waiting to start a blog because you think it is too hard then your day has come.
Yes, you can make money blogging, but you need to actually have a blog to make the income happen.
The good news (or the bad news depending on how you look at it) is that your website traffic will not show up overnight. So you have plenty of time to make mistakes, try new things, and work on perfecting your blog.

Get a Hosting Account and Domain Name
If you plan to become a professional blogger and earn money from your blog, then self-hosted WordPress allows you much flexibility.
SiteGround includes a free domain name with every hosting account. So, if you don’t have a domain name already you can pick it up with your hosting.
If you already own your domain, no worries. SiteGround customer support is awesome and can help you with all of that.
Note that self-hosted WordPress is different from WordPress.com.
You can read about the differences here – but know that WordPress.com is managed hosting and does not give you the freedom to add your own WordPress plugins and themes like self-hosted WordPress.
Learn more about the different types of WordPress hosting here.
I get that self-hosted WordPress is not for everyone – you can read the pros and cons here.
How I Started My Blog
Years ago I started my blog because I read that blogging was a business that I could start with very little cost.
And this still holds true, somewhat.
You can start with cheap hosting and a simple WordPress theme. Then, as you grow your blog you can invest more in your business.
It may be tempting to start with a free blog site like Blogger, but I don’t recommend it.
When I started my blog, I used Blogger. Eventually, I found it too limiting for my needs. I couldn’t add the plugins that I needed nor could I easily change themes to what I was looking for.
Eventually, I migrated the whole site over to self-hosted WordPress (what a pain).
I wish someone had told me to just start on WordPress – it would have been great advice on starting a blog.
The Benefits of SiteGround
My website is hosted on SiteGround and I feel that they really understand WordPress. They have hosting plans that are tailored to WordPress users.
The reality with self-hosted WordPress is that there are a lot of moving parts. Sometimes a WordPress or plugin update causes an issue, sometimes it is your theme, and sometimes it is the hosting.
Great Customer Support
With that much going on, I need responsive customer support. I am not a techie. I understand some stuff but largely rely on my host to help me through.
SiteGround has come through every time for me.
Affordable Hosting Plans
SiteGround is competitively priced with beginner plans starting at only $3.95 per month (paid annually).
Free Domain Name
Every hosting account on SiteGround comes with one free domain name. Here are some tips on choosing a domain name.
Even the cheapest hosting plan comes with some level of WordPress backups. Such an important feature especially when you need it.
Free WordPress Install and Free Site Transfer
See – learning how to start blogging is easy. SiteGround will transfer your blog from another host and install WordPress on your SiteGround hosting account for you.
Comprehensive WordPress Tutorials
If you are more of a DIY type when it comes to starting your own blog – SiteGround even has a list of comprehensive WordPress tutorials to walk you through the process.
How to Start Blogging on SiteGround
SiteGround makes it super easy to install WordPress on your own blog.
First, they will do it for you, if you want. But they also have something called the SiteGround Wizard that sets you up in what felt like just a few seconds.
I wrote my own how to start blogging on SiteGround tutorial here – but I think it has become even easier if that is possible. 😉
