Happy New Year! And we are already one week into 2018 – can you believe it?
It’s been a busy week for me both blog wise and on the home front.
I started the week by setting a few blogging goals for the new year.
Because I like to take baby steps – my immediate goal for January is to get more blog traffic.
How To Get More Blog Traffic?
Isn’t that the million dollar question?
Obviously, there are a lot of factors into getting people to stop by your website – and stay a bit.
Towards the end of last year, I saw a recurring theme amongst popular bloggers that I follow.
Basically, they said that their own blog traffic increased as a result of:
- Posting more often, and
- working Pinterest hard.
Now, I am usually slow on the uptake because – you know – I always stray from tried and true advice. (why oh why do I do this?)
But for 2018 I decided to put blinders on and focus on these 2 areas.
Using Pinterest To Increase Blog Traffic
In December I signed up for a BoardBooster account to help me with Pinterest scheduling. Honestly, I tried to do all my pinning manually, but I just couldn’t keep up.
Throughout 2017 my traffic from Pinterest did increase steadily but nothing major.
The problem is that you can’t just share a pin once and forget about it – you need to post it periodically to keep it in circulation.
This past week I spent a lot of time setting up my campaigns and scheduling in BoardBooster so that part of my pinning strategy can run on autopilot.
I still plan to pin manually as well – because Pinterest wants you to be involved on their site and I think that is necessary for growth in the long run.
Posting More Content
In the past, my posting schedule has been erratic.
Somehow life always gets in the way – so I will have some good weeks where I post every day, and other weeks when I can barely get one post up.
One of the assignments in Elite Blog Academy is to create an editorial calendar.
But I have always struggled with that.
This month I am taking a no excuses attitude and committing to post every weekday through January. At that point I will reassess and go from there.
A Kitchen Renovation
While I try to keep my blogging business on track, my house is falling down around me.
We started the new year with a complete kitchen renovation project.
It’s time. Our kitchen was 20 years old and was showing it’s age.
However, to say that it’s a disruption is putting it mildly.
I’m like the kid who’s always asking “Are we there yet?” – except it’s “Are we done yet?”. Um, yeah, we just started.
But on the bright side – I’ve learned more about which kitchen countertop is best and if you are planning a remodel down the road hopefully the info will be helpful to you.
Do You Like to Read?
Another one of my goals for 2018 is to read more regularly.
I’m always reading stuff online – but hunkering down with an inspirational book is something I have not done for awhile.
So, I put together a list of 12 entrepreneur books (1 for each month) that I’d like to get through this year.
Topping the list for January is Michael Hyatt’s new release Your Best Year Ever.
Let me know if you’d like to read along with me.
Have a great weekend!
