What Is Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing?

Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing is a blogging course that was created by Michelle Schroeder-Gardner.

She is a mega successful blogger and she regularly makes over $100,000 per month from her blog Making Sense of Cents.

It’s true – really! You can see Michelle in the news here:

Much of her income comes from affiliate marketing.

This is the first affiliate marketing course that I ever took and it really helped me to organize my thoughts and my strategy.

The course includes several bonuses and access to the students only Facebook group – which is actually (I say “actually” because I know we all suffer from Facebook Group overload – but this one is a keeper!) a really awesome and helpful group. I check it daily.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

I get asked this question all the time.

People who aren’t bloggers don’t understand how bloggers make money.

It is a weird concept – we don’t have an employer and sometimes we don’t even sell products or services – so we don’t have traditional clients either.

Where does the money come from?

Typically, you see bloggers earn through many different income streams:

  • display advertising (meaning showing ads on your website)
  • sponsored posts (meaning partnering with brands who pay you to write articles about their products and services) and
  • affiliate marketing

In simple terms, affiliate marketing is where you talk about a product or service in your various blog posts.

When you mention the product you link to it with an affiliate link.

This is a special link that unique code in it that tells the company that the sale (if one is made) came from your website.

You then get a commission on whatever your reader purchased.

Why You Need An Affiliate Marketing Course

Affiliate marketing may sound easy but it’s not.

You can’t just randomly put up affiliate links and expect to see the dollars start rolling in.

Having a strategy is really important.

Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing is a course that can help you create that strategy.

It helps you determine what is going to work for you.

  • What products will you promote?
  • How will you reach the right audience?
  • How do you find affiliate programs to join?
  • What happens if you are not accepted into a program?
  • How can you negotiate your rates?

Even though I have been blogging for awhile, I still revisit this course on a regular basis.

Every time I go through it, I get new ideas for content to add to my blog and social media channels.
