Now that my kids are older, one of my favorite things to do is have a family movie DAY. That’s right – DAY.
It’s so rare that we all have a full day to spend together, so when it happens it is a beautiful thing.
Everyone picks out a few movies that they want to watch – and we go through the list, usually watching 3 or 4 by the end of the day.
Sometimes we will start one, vote it down, and start a new one thirty minutes in.
My kids are in their late teens and early twenties so we don’t have to always go for the politically correct or child friendly stuff which opens the field for many more titles.
I grew up in the eighties and that decade churned out some great 80’s movies – sometimes cheesy but always entertaining.
Although I have seen many, there are a few that I missed – so these movie days are a great way to catch up.
Keep A List of Movies You Want to Watch
But here’s the thing – you can’t just sit down and randomly start searching for 80’s movies to watch.
The family will lose interest and the moment will be gone, with everyone scattering into a million different directions.
You know how it goes – “Let me see if it’s on Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, Showtime, Apple etc, etc …. “.
The movies that you want to see aren’t always available.
So, the organizer in me has started keeping an “80’s Movies List”.
Cross Reference The List With Your Movie Services
Although we subscribe to a few different movie services – my favorite is Prime Video.
It’s my favorite for two reasons:
- it’s included with my Amazon Prime subscription and there are tons of free choices
- if it is not free, it is usually available for rent at a reasonable price
So, it cuts down the time that I spend trying to find the movie that I want to watch.
This is how I work it:
First, I keep a running 80’s Movies List in my Things To Do List App – but you could use anything from a regular old notebook to asking Alexa to keep a movie list for you.
Then, when I think a movie day might be happening soon, I look up the titles from my 80’s Movie List in Prime Video.
If they are available (just like on other movie streaming services the titles change from time to time), I add them to my Watch List right on Amazon.
If they are not available, I will check out other movie streaming services and add them to my lists over there.
Now, when we sit down to watch – everything is available right at my fingertips.
A little planning goes a long way!
