The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond is a spine chilling page turner that is guaranteed to keep you reading well into the night.
When summer rolls around, I love to relax with a good novel.
Suspense, mystery, psychological thrillers … they all channel my inner CSI.
So I was really excited to review The Marriage Pact for Random House Publishing.
The premise is this …
How Far Would You Go to Make Your Marriage Last?
It sounds like a normal question.
Or possibly a question for people with rocky marriages.
But newlyweds Jake and Alice were already happy.
They were introduced to The Marriage Pact during their wedding.
The goal of The Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense. Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. . . .
And, oh yeah …
Never mention The Pact to anyone.
At first glance, the Pact seemed like an instruction manual for happy marriages with a support group to boot.
Who wouldn’t want that?
But What Happens if You Break the Rules?
And the plot takes a dark twist.
What starts out as something good soon becomes horrifying.
There is no way out.
The judges are unknown. The punishments are swift and harsh. And The Pact knows all.
Yet oddly enough, Jake and Alice seem reluctant to leave.
Why?
This is where the author, Michelle Richmond, takes you deep into the psychology of cult conformity.
And it is scary.
How can seemingly normal people give up on their individuality and start to conform.
A Perfect Page Turner for The Beach or a Rainy Summer Day
I cannot put this book down.
It pains me to take a break from this page turner to write this post. 🙂
My plan for today was to throw The Marriage Pact in my bag and head to the beach.
But the weather had other ideas.
The forecast calls for rain all day, and I couldn’t be happier.
Nothing is more relaxing than hunkering down with a good book on a rainy summer day.
Today I want answers.
What happens to Jake and Alice?
Do they survive The Pact?
Does their marriage endure?
And more importantly, does The Pact endure?
Good should always conquer evil – but this time I am not sure that it will.
Have You Read “The Marriage Pact”?
If you have read The Marriage Pact, I want to know! What did you think? Did you find it to be as much of a page turner as I did?
If you haven’t read the book yet – you can find out more about it here.
It is a psychological thriller along the lines of Gone Girl and Girl on the Train. Definitely a great addition to your summer reading list.
Very simple but clear review. At least I can picture the pact! Hmmmm!!
Good work Neena.
Hi Jerry,
Yes, The Pact is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Thanks for the compliment on the review!
