Where to Start

There is so much that I want to tell you about Caraway, that it is hard for me to pick a place to start.

I could lead with the benefits of their ceramic coated cookware which include that they are crafted without PTFE, PFOA, and PFAS, are relatively non-stick, and are so easy to clean.

Or, I could talk about my first experience with Caraway which I wrote about previously. I am still regularly using those pots and pans to this day.

But it seems to me that the best place to start is to show you, in detail, the pieces that I chose for this post, and then circle back to the rest.

Why I Chose the Caraway Cookware Pieces For This Post

As an avid cook, I use a variety of cookware in my kitchen. Each piece serves a unique purpose. My pots and pans are my cooking tools and I enjoy using specific pans for specific recipes.

Of course, depending on the size of your kitchen, space and organization are important factors in the cookware that you choose.

When I did my first Caraway review my kitchen space was very limited, so I needed a one size fits all pan that I could use every day for a variety of different recipes. At that time I chose the 10.5 inch fry pan and the dutch oven because I could use those for lots of things.

But now that I have a little more space in my kitchen, I wanted a few pieces that filled in some gaps in my cookware collection. On my wish list was a wok style pan – and the Caraway 12 inch Stir Fry Pan fit the bill. Also, I did not have a small steamer, so the combo (items are sold separately) of the small steamer basket and the 3 quart saucepan were perfect.

The Caraway 3 Quart Saucepan With Lid

The Caraway 3 quart saucepan with lid is a work horse of a pot and I use it much more than I had envisioned.

As empty nesters, the 3 quart size is perfect for making 2 portions of soups, sauces, and pasta. It is also perfect for cooking rice. And the ceramic coating makes cleaning up a breeze.

I love the ceramic coated lid that comes with this saucepan. The weight of it seals in the heat, and I personally feel that it helps to make meats more tender and helps to blend the flavors in sauces.

To be honest, I initially chose this sauce pan because of the nesting steamer basket (sold separately) but I use the pan on it’s own quite a bit for other recipes.

The Caraway Small Steamer Basket

Steamed vegetables are a quick, simple, and healthy side dish that go with any meal. But, since, I did not own a small steamer that was easy to use, I found that I would skip making vegetables if I was in a rush. In the back of my mind, I knew I had to find the right cooking tool to remedy the situation, but it wasn’t really a priority.

So, when I saw the Caraway small steamer basket I was immediately drawn to it. And when I realized how it nested perfectly inside the 3 quart sauce pan, I knew I had found the solution to my steamer issue. To say that I am pleased with this combo is an understatement.

As I mentioned before, the sauce pan has tons of uses on it’s own. But when you combine it with the steamer insert – you can easily steam vegetables, make small quantities of pasta (and simply pull out the insert to drain), and steam dumplings too.

You can also use the insert on it’s own as a strainer to strain pasta or wash fruits and vegetables.

The steamer basket has a stainless steel finish on the outside and is coated ceramic on the inside. It also comes in an option with a gold finish on the outside instead. The gold finish would go well with the pans that have gold handles. I got the small steamer basket but it also comes in a larger size that fits perfectly inside the 6.5 quart Caraway dutch oven.

The Caraway 12 Inch Stir Fry Pan

The navy Caraway ceramic coated 12 inch wok shaped stir fry pan.

The Caraway 12 inch stir fry pan is a wok shaped pan that, true to it’s name, is perfect for whipping up stir fry recipes or cooking, sort of, large awkward quantities of food. – I will explain what I mean in a minute. This pan is bowl shaped with a flat bottom where the heat is concentrated and sides that slope up from there.

When making a true stir fry, the idea is to cook one ingredient at a time in the bottom of the pan, and then push that ingredient up the sides so it can continue to cook with less heat while you add another ingredient to the bottom for higher heat cooking and so on and so forth. When it is all done, you add in the sauce and push all the ingredients back down to mix. This technique is called pot sticking or side staging. Obviously, the Caraway stir fry pan is perfect for this!

But, you can also use the stir fry pan for so much more. For example, I often make an Indian style cabbage dish. If you have ever chopped up a head of cabbage, even a small one, you know that you get a lot of chopped cabbage from one head. Finding a pan large enough to cook it up is pretty tricky – and this stir fry pan has come to my rescue.

You can also use the stir fry pan to make curries, one pot recipes, and fried rice to name a few.

One feature that I love is the secondary curved handle across from the long handle which enables you to hold the pan with 2 hands. A full, hot, 12 inch stir fry pan can become rather heavy and too cumbersome to manage with one hand – so that secondary handle is a huge plus.

I do wish that this pan came with a lid, but alas, it does not. However, Caraway does sell a 12 inch glass lid for this pan separately.

Benefits of Caraway Ceramic Coated Cookware

I originally discovered Caraway ceramic coated cookware a few years ago when I was looking for a teflon alternative. My old, non-stick pans were showing signs of wear and I wanted to replace them with pans that still had non-stick qualities but not so much negative press.

According to Caraway, their pans are non-toxic, non-stick, easy to clean, durable, and conduct heat well. They are free from chemicals like PTFE, PFOA, and PFAS.

My Experience With Caraway Pans

The touted benefits made me curious enough that I had to give them a try – and am still using my first pans 3 and half years later, at the time of this writing.

I have followed the care and cleaning instructions that Caraway provides and the pots and pans have held up beautifully. I do have to mention that my first pans were the Cream color which has discolored somewhat over the years. This does not bother me in the least as it shows that they have been well used and well loved.

However, this time around, I decided to go with a darker color – the Navy, which also matches my kitchen.

Other Caraway Products

Caraway cookware is synonymous with great quality and over the years they have expanded their offerings to include bakeware, stainless steel cookware, cast iron cookware, storage containers, accessories, and more. It is totally worth exploring their offerings if you are looking for something other than ceramic coated cookware.

A few years ago, I purchased their mini bakeware set in Cream, and it is now my “go-to” set of baking pans.
