I have been looking for a pair of gardening boots for spring – so when The Muck Boot Company asked me to review their Women’s Originals Ankle Boot, I was super excited to do so.

Overall, I think they are a cute, waterproof, natural rubber boot that run slightly large in the sizing and would be useful for gardening or on wet rainy days.

Be sure to read to the end where I provide an update after having worn the boots for a full day in the rain.

The Boot That I Chose

It was fun to be able to choose the color of the Women’s Originals Ankle Boot – and I went with the Grey. This is a light grey boot with a cream colored band around the base and a pretty green and peach floral neoprene inset.

Since I wear a size 8 in most shoes, I went with the size 8 in the Muck Boot as well.

My First Impressions

Upon opening the box I noticed a few things right away.

First, the boots really are cute! They seem to be well made. And the rubber is very soft and flexible.

However, there was a strong smell of natural rubber that has since dissipated after I left the boots out of the box overnight.

Design Overview

These Muck Boots Originals ankle style are made of a light gray rubber with a cream colored band around the base.

The toe is triple reinforced and the heel is quadruple reinforced for strength.

There is a neoprene inset that features a pretty floral pattern in green and peach colors, on the outside. This neoprene material is what forms the lining of the boot, however the color of the neoprene on the inside of the boot is black.

The insole of the boot is removable, so you could use your own orthotics or a different insole, if you like.

And, there are different color combinations as well as heights (ankle, mid rise, and tall) available in the Originals style on the website here.

The sole of the boot is tan colored rubber with ample treads for traction. These have some type of a coating that may or may not be designed to wear off with use.

Muck Boots Sizing and Fit

As I mentioned, I wear a size 8 in most shoes and ordered this pair of Muck Boots Originals Ankle Boots in a size 8 as well.

The boot itself is very comfortable with a nice cushiony footbed, that is removable.

As for size, I felt that the boots ran a bit large. However, I am not sure if I would size down a whole size to a size 7. If only they had half sizes! Your best bet is to measure your foot and use the Muck Boot Sizing Chart here. And if you are between sizes, like me, then maybe try both and see which fit you like the best.

I think the idea is to make sure the boots are roomy enough that you can wear them comfortably all day – as you go about your outdoor work – without any pinching or pain.

Certainly, wearing a thick pair of socks helps to keep them from slipping in the heel, and I like the roominess in the toe box.

The Color of the Muck Boot

Finally, I want to leave you with pictures of this boot in the sun and in the shade, so you can get a feel for the color in different light.

I feel like the gray color of this boot has some green undertones that go nicely with the floral pattern on the neoprene.

Update After Having Worn the Boots for a Full Day In The Rain

Lucky for me, a few days after posting this review – we traveled up to Massachusetts and spent a full day exploring the area in the rain. So, I had a perfect opportunity to break my Muck Boots in.

I wore a pair of thick ankle socks that day and I have to say that my feet stayed warm and dry.

I also appreciated having the roomy size 8 boot and was very happy that I did not size down.

My feet were comfortable and the boots did not pinch my pinky toes or hurt in any way. I think I had the boots on for about 6 to 8 hours straight.

As for the bottom of the boots, you can see that the protective coating did wear off on the treads – so it was likely just there to protect the soles during the manufacturing and shipping process.

Since I wrote this review, I have worn these boots several times and they are the footwear that I reach for in rainy weather or for doing yard work on dewy mornings.

Overall, I am very pleased with these Muck boots.

Overall Thoughts on the Muck Boots Women’s Ankle Originals Boot

Overall, I really like this boot. It is a warm, waterproof boot that is perfect for gardening, wearing in the rain, or working in generally muddy conditions.

The colors and design are very spring like and would look nice with jeans, leggings, and even shorts.

As these boots do run large in the sizing, I would have liked to try both the size 7 and the size 8 to see which pair was the better fit for me.

Enjoy!
