One of my family’s favorite side dish recipes is this simple wilted spinach with garlic recipe.
Even my pickiest young adult children (yes – the eat your vegetables struggle continues) will eat their leafy greens served this way.
Ingredients
All you need are the most basic of ingredients:
- a tub of fresh spinach
- fresh garlic cloves
- salt, pepper, and olive oil
How easy is that?
Cooking Utensils Needed
I find that this recipe works best when made in a large, deep, nonstick pan.
I also like to use a set of long silicone tipped tongs – so as not to scratch the pan.
How to Make the Spinach
Wash and dry the spinach. A salad spinner works really well for this.
Crush and chop the garlic – I use a large, flat chef style knife and my favorite walnut cutting board to get this done.
Heat the olive oil in the nonstick pan over medium heat.
Toss in the chopped garlic and sauté for about a minute, until it starts to brown.
Add the spinach, the salt, and the pepper.
Use the tongs to stir and fold over the spinach in the pan.
At first, the spinach will pretty much fill the pan.
But as the spinach cooks, it will release water and start to wilt and shrink down.
When the spinach is wilted but not overdone, remove from heat.
This does not take very long – about 3 minutes or so.
Serve warm.
And that’s it.
I find that this side dish goes well with just about any main dish recipe.
